Got a Paleo Question?

So many people come and go through out the day at the gym with some kind of nagging question about eating Paleo. They have every intention of asking one of the staff about their problem/question/idea but somehow walk out with never getting off their minds. Or how about this; the question was asked and wasn't answered or was answered to little satisfaction.

The chances that you are a unique and special butterfly who is the only one with that same question is slim to none. More than likely the question has been asked many times over and in multiple locals. To see if it has, check this out...

Upcoming Events

Our list of people interested in jumping around SkyZone gets bigger every time I look at it. Last I saw we had about 15 people interested. To give you all an idea of what this would break down to let's do some math.

The more people we can get to commit the cheaper the price per person, duh... With 40 people committed to going, a one-hour block would cost each of us about $12-$15. This would give us the whole facility!!! Once we hit a relatively large number of interested "jumpers", we'll get the ball rolling on this one!

Group Shoot Out:
We are once again getting together to shoot our guns at random junk and stuff in the open desert of Nevada! On Sunday, February 27th, we will be heading down to Sloan to waste perfectly good ammo and have a good time! We will meet at the gym at 12pm and head down from there. As always, we will have an impromptu dinner thing afterward!

If you would like to come out with us make sure you sign up at the front desk. Also be sure to bring plenty of targets! We didn't really plan ahead last time and ran outta junk to shoot at!

Foam Wow Clinic with Dr. Josh Satterlee:
Many of us have been rather anxious to attend the Foam Rolling Clinic that our good friend, Dr. Josh Satterlee puts out! We have set the date for the clinic to Saturday March 12th at 10am. If you are interested in participating be sure to sign up at the front desk! Cost is $25 without the purchase of a foam roller and $50 with the purchase!

  1. I'd like an honest answer from the owners/trainers... I deadlifted Wednesday, and had a day off thursday. I've read deadlifting should only be performed once a week or even once every 2 weeks, should I do the workout friday? It's frustrating since I'm only able to come a few times per week so taking additional days off sucks. Friday would have been my regular day to come but now I'm thinking of missing and wont be able to come till monday, that would mean i have 4 days off in a row, hard to keep motivated in coming to gym. Also opening up for discussion, is there a way to have an option/substitution for a movement. ex. if deadlifted wed. do back squat instead or vise versa?

  2. Anonymous,
First I have so say that I just wrote out this whole elaborate response and then accidently deleted it. so this will be short and sweet :)
What is your reference for "deadlifting should only be performed once a week or even once every 2 weeks"? Is it from a scholarly article? There are sooooooo many opinions out there on what is the perfect way to train. I just spent over an hour going through scholarly articles trying to find something I could reference for you but there is so much discrepency in what people find to be right and wrong. Here at CFLV we have been basing the current strength portion on the Wendler 5-3-1 training recommendations. I know this week has 2 days of deadlifts, that happens in Crossfit. Crossfit is "constantly varied, functional movements, at high intensity" and sometimes there is overlap. One week we might do 3 days of pullups. Maybe the next week we will overhead squat/front squat/and backsquat. It is not a goal to overtrain, the workouts are programmed for different intensity or strength goals. The strength workout on wednesday was for controlled reps at a very high weight. The workout todays goal is totally different, it is lighter weight and high metabolic output. You are putting all that strength you are building to the test. So that is how it is different. If you are feeling so fatigued that you are injured, please listen to your body. Take a day off. That doesn't mean you don't workout for 4 days right? There are so many things you can do outside the gym.

The link here shows a LOT of bodyweight exercises you could do at home. Also the gym is open on Sunday for open gym if you want to try something out youve been dying to try. I will leave you with this.... John Broz, a local good friend and amazing coach, trains olympic bound athletes here in town. His athletes backsquat 2 times a day, 6 days a week. They max snatch and clean and jerk everyday. They are sore, they are setting records. I am not saying it is the perfect way, but my point is that there are a million different "right" ways,

Listen to your body and continue to ask questions. PLEASE ask me in person, I would love to answer more questions for you, I would most definitely be better face to face.
